INDIGO AG is a microbiome company that’s less than five years old and already has products on the market: microbial seed treatments for five major agricultural crops. These treatments are designed to boost crop yields by making plants more resistant to stress, such as drought. The company developed the treatments by identifying the microbes that live in and benefit plants. Indigo contracts with farmers, and then connects the growers with buyers. In field tests in Texas, Indigo’s seed treatment increased cotton yields by 14 percent in its second season after commercial release.
