RealNetworks Cuts 130 More Jobs

Seattle’s RealNetworks (Nasdaq: RNWK) said today that 130 more positions, representing about 10 percent of the company’s workforce, will be eliminated in the final step of a restructuring program that began last year. The cuts, which are projected to save the media software company $11 million per year, bring total layoffs at RealNetworks to nearly 400 since 2009. “Our plan to simplify, restructure and grow is on track,” CEO Bob Kimball said in a statement. “While the process of restructuring is always difficult, we made substantial progress in 2010 in simplifying our organization and restructuring to reduce costs.” Kimball told TechFlash that 40 employees will be let go at the company’s Seattle headquarters, while the rest of the cuts will be spread around the world, with the Helsinki, Finland, office targeted for closure.
