Facebook Acquires Snaptu

Moblica, an Israeli startup that makes a multi-purpose social media mobile app called Snaptu, said in a blog post Sunday that it has agreed to be purchased by Palo Alto, CA-based Facebook. Snaptu, designed for Java-enabled feature phones, allows users to connect to Twitter, Facebook, Picasa, RSS Feeds, Accuweather, and a catalogue of other information sources. Moblica had raised about $10 million in venture funding from Sequoia Capital, Carmel Ventures, and other investors, according to a report in Dow Jones VentureWire. The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
