Index Ventures Expanding to Bay Area

Index Ventures, a European life sciences and technology venture investing firm with offices in Geneva, London, and Jersey, plans to open a Bay Area office, according to a blog post today by London-based partner Mike Volpi, who will head the new outpost together with partner Danny Rimer. About a third of Index Venture’s 173 portfolio companies are in the United States. “We feel we can do a better job of supporting the entrepreneurs we work with both in Europe and the US by having a permanent presence in the Bay Area,” Volpi writes, adding that he and Rimer will be “quite happy to reduce the quantity of 11pm phone calls to California from London.” There’s no word yet on exactly where the firm’s Silicon Valley office will be located, or when it will open.
