Foursquare Expands in SF

New York-based Foursquare, maker of mobile apps that enable location-based check-ins and merchant promotions, posted word in its blog yesterday that it’s about to hire a “full team of West Coast engineers,” who will work in a Mission office shared with mobile credit-card processing startup Square, the creation of Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey. The 35-employee startup’s biggest challenge, according to the post, has been hiring fast enough to support a surge of both users (from 100,000 to more than 4.5 million in the past year) and third-party developers building apps that tap the company’s apps. “So, to help attract the best talent in the world, we decided it’s time to open an outpost in San Francisco,” the company said.
