340 Lose Jobs at Sony Electronics
Sony Electronics, which has been reorganizing its San Diego operations, disclosed that 340 employees are losing their jobs through a combination of early retirement and layoffs. Because more workers took early retirement than the Japanese company had expected, Sony executives told the San Diego Union-Tribune the company could have as many as 100 job openings at its North American headquarters, which now has about 1,900 employees. The cutbacks come as Sony is nearing completion of a new $150 million building in suburban Rancho Bernardo.
