New York Startups Shapeways, Chloe + Isabel, and Rake in Cash

An array of New York startups, including a 3D manufacturer and a dating website, has raised funding recently:

  • Shapeways, a 3D printing company says in a blog post it raised $5.1 million in a funding round with prior investors Union Square Ventures and Index Ventures. The company’s 3D printing services let customers create products from their own designs with materials such as ceramics, nylon, and silver. In addition to that financing, Shapeways also says in the post it received a commitment for a $1.2 million loan from NYC Investment Fund. Shapeways plans to use the funds to open a production facility in New York in 2012. The company also has offices in Seattle and opened a 3D printing facility in February in Eindhoven, The Netherlands.
  • According to a press release sent to Xconomy, online jewelry company Chloe + Isabel raised $8.5 million in a Series A round led by General Catalyst Partners with participation from First Round Capital. Chloe + Isabel designs and markets its jewelry, which is sold  through members of the website who receive commissions from each sale. The company raised $3.25 million in January in a seed round with First Round Capital, Floodgate Fund, and angel investors.
  • This Life in Brooklyn, which runs the dating site, said in a regulatory filing it raised $15 million. According to a company spokesperson, the Series B round was led by Khosla Ventures with participation from RRE Ventures and ff Venture Capital. This Life plans to use the funds to continue development of HowAboutWe and to expand its services. This Life raised $3.1 million in a Series A round last November in a round with RRE Ventures and angel investors.
