On June 29, 2018, Xconomy said goodbye to our dear friend Bruce Bigelow, the longtime editor of Xconomy San Diego. Bruce was an outstanding journalist, a beloved father, colleague, and friend, and a fixture of the San Diego innovation scene. He passed away at the age of 63 after a brief illness.
As the awful news traveled, what echoed back even louder than the profound sadness of Bruce’s loss was the tremendous joy of having known him. Bruce was smart and wry and quirky and, above all, kind. For his Xconomy family, it has been a balm to share our memories of him and hear from folks who knew him in San Diego and beyond. We wanted to capture these stories on these pages, and invite others to add to them.
If you have anything you’d like to share—an anecdote about Bruce, a photo, an appreciation—please e-mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org. We’ll update this site for as long as you have stories to tell which, knowing Bruce, will be a long time indeed. And in the meantime, we’ll be imagining Bruce somewhere lovely and serene. Here he is at Colorado’s Mills Lake, one of his favorite places, in a photo taken by his daughter, Caitlin.
