PerkinElmer Agrees to Buy CambridgeSoft

PerkinElmer (NYSE:PKI), the Waltham, MA-based provider of products and services focused on the health and safety of people and the environment, said today that it has inked a definitive agreement to acquire CambridgeSoft of Cambridge, MA. In related news, PerkinElmer has completed its buyout of ArtusLabs, based in Research Triangle Park, NC. PerkinElmer says that the initial aggregate purchase price for the two companies is about $220 million, and the new acquisitions are expected to expand the buyer’s software and informatics offerings. Together, CambridgeSoft and ArtusLabs are expected to generate 2011 revenue of $65 million. PerkinElmer chief executive Rob Friel told me that the company planned to make some acquisitions when I spoke to him in September.
