Roger Perlmutter

Roger Perlmutter is the president of Merck Research Laboratories. From 2001 to 2012 he was executive vice president, Research and Development at Amgen, Inc., the world's largest biotechnology company.

Before joining Amgen, Dr. Perlmutter was executive vice president at Merck Research Laboratories. He also held positions as chairman, Dept. of Immunology, at the University of Washington; was a professor in the Departments of Medicine and Biochemistry, and was an Investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.

Dr. Perlmutter received his bachelor's degree in 1973 from Reed College, Portland, Oregon, and his M.D. and Ph.D. degrees from Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri in 1979.
