Andrea Giuffrida, Ph.D. is the Vice President for Research at the UT Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA) and a professor of pharmacology. He oversees the institutional research infrastructure and operations and promotes the formation of new academia-industry partnerships. He is actively involved in the development of policies and educational platforms to foster entrepreneurial skills among faculty and students. Giuffrida is a liaison to the University of Texas System and the Health Science Center’s Offices of Federal Relations and Institutional Advancement. Previously, he was the Director of Biomedical Research Development at UTHSCSA. In 2011, he served as Science & Technology Policy Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science at the Office of Science Policy at the National Institutes of Health. He currently serves on the board of directors of BioMedSA, a non-profit organization that promotes San Antonio’s biomedical industry in the United States and abroad. He also serves on the board of trustees at the Texas Research & Technology Foundation and the Texas Biomedical Research Institute. Giuffrida is a member of the editorial boards of the International Journal of Neuropsychopharmacology and Pharmaceutical Regulatory Affairs. His research interests focus on the neuropharmacology of psychomotor disorders such as schizophrenia and Parkinson’s disease. He is actively involved in science and biotechnology networks throughout Texas, across the U.S. and internationally in Germany and Italy.
