Alan Aderem is the president of Seattle BioMedical Research Institute. Aderem has studied the interface between the innate and adaptive immune system for more than twenty-five years. He obtained his Ph.D. at the University of Cape Town, South Africa, and has led laboratories at The Rockefeller University and the University of Washington. In 2000, Aderem co-founded the Institute for Systems Biology with Drs. Leroy Hood and Ruedi Aebersold. Aderem joined Seattle BioMed as director in 2011, and became Seattle BioMed President in 2012. Working alongside fellow Institute leadership, Aderem is integrating a systems biology approach to Seattle BioMed’s global infectious disease research.
